Odisha Sun Times Weather Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Jan 2:

While most parts of Odisha experienced moderate to heavy rainfall in the last 72 hours, the Met office here has predicted that the chilly weather conditions would continue to prevail in the state till January 5.

weatherParadip recorded the highest rainfall of 75 mm and Chandbali with 44 mm last night, said the Met office release today.

According to a Met forecast this morning, the well-marked low pressure has now moved northwards and lay centered west-central and north-central Bay of Bengal.

Talking to the media today, director, IMD, Bhubaneswar Sarat Chandra Sahu said that the intensity of the cloud mass had substantially dissolved. However, due to wind speed that remained around 52-55 kmph yesterday, there was extensive rainfall in some parts of the state.

“The weather condition in the coastal districts will improve due to blowing of westerly wind from Central India while rainfall will occur in the interior districts in the next 48 hours”, he said.

Sahu also said that most parts of the state will have dry weather after 72 hours by January 5 as the trough line over Central India has started weakening.

“It is expected the state will experience cold wave conditions after January 5 and will intensify further after January 8 onwards as another trough line is expected along the Odisha coast by January 7 or 8”, he added.
