No let up from searing heat as 11 places in Odisha record above 40 deg C

Bhubaneswar: There seems to be no respite from grueling summer as 11 places in Odisha register maximum day temperature above 40 degrees Celsius today.

Of the places, the western Odisha districts bore the brunt of the rising mercury. Titlagarh remained the hottest station in the state with 43.5 degrees Celsius. The other places where day temperature cross the 40 mark are – Balasore (40), Angul (41.1), Sambalpur (41.4), Hirakud (41.3), Talcher (40.2), Bhawanipatna (41.8), Bolangir (41.5), Malkangiri (41.8), Sonepur (41.2) and Jharsuguda (42.6).

With monsoon playing truant, people in the state are having a hard time in this torrid weather. The deep depression over Arabian Sea had slowed down the movement of monsoon towards Odisha, though it has already hit Kerala over a week ago.

People in several parts prefer to stay indoors from as early as 9 am till 5 pm, in view of the heat wave conditions prevailing across the state. The extreme weather condition has claimed a couple of lives in the past few days.
