Bhubaneswar, Oct 30:

With major political parties still undecided about taking part in the upcoming elections for 22 urban local bodies (ULBs) in western Odisha, not a single nomination paper has been filed for as many as 10 ULBs on the third day since the process started on Monday.

However, 100 nomination papers have been sold in these 10 ULBs, State Election Commission (SEC) sources said. The total number of papers sold for all ULBs, scheduled to go to polls on Nnovember 22, so far is 687, they said.

Fifty one nomination papers were filed on Wednesday for the other 12 ULBs, taking the number of nominations filed so far to 155.

The last date for filing of nomination is November 1. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on November 4 while candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on November 7.

It is to be noted that polls were postponed in these districts due to the agitation by lawyers demanding a permanent High Court bench in the region. All political parties had boycotted the polls on September 19 to press the demand.
