No road to remote village in Odisha, Expectant mother carried on cot

Kalahandi: Even after seven decades of independence of the country, there was no road connectivity in remote areas in Odisha for which the expectant mothers are being carried under poor circumstances to hospital.

Such an incident was reported once again in Litibandei village under Lanjigarh block in tribal district of Kalahandi where a pregnant woman was carried on a cot as there was no access of ambulance due to absence of roads to the village.

According to reports, the family members of Manjula called for an ambulance after she suffered labour pain on Saturday. They waited for hours for the ambulance but it could not reach. They were forced to carry Manjula on a cot and reached Lanjigarh main road crossing hills and river. From Lanjigarh the woman was taken to the government hospital in an ambulance.

The pregnant woman was brought to hospital from Lanjigarh. As the roads have been damaged due to heavy rains in the remote areas of Odisha, it has become difficult to get ambulance service, said Kalahandi CDMO Jagulal Agarwal.

However, we are trying to provide stretchers in cut off areas very soon, he added.
