No threat of fresh floods in Odisha, says govt

With the water level of all major rivers flowing well below the danger mark and no immediate formation of any low pressure, there is no fresh threat of flood in Odisha, the Water Resources department said today.

As per a Met release this evening, the upper catchments of Mahanadi river recorded 39.6 mm rainfall by 8.30 AM today.

The water level of Brahmani was receding at Rengali and Talcher while Baitarani was flowing below the danger mark at Champur, Swampatna, Rajghat and Jamsolaghat, a press release issued by the department said.

In Mayurbhanj district, Budhabalanga was flowing below the danger mark at Balimundali and Gobindpur.

The water level of Mahanadi was below the danger mark at Khairamal in Boudh and Naraj in Cuttack district while the water level of Kushabhadra and Devi rivers remained constant.

In South Odisha, there was no change in the water level of Bansadhara at Gudari, Gunupur and Kashinagar and Rushikulya river at Soroda, Madhabarida and Purusottampur while these two rivers were flowing below the danger mark.

In Sambalpur, the water level of Mahanadi at Hirakud dam was 610.58 feet. While the inflow of water was 3,33,550 cubic feet per second, the outflow was 2,01,148 cubic feet per second.

The rainfall recorded in the upper catchments of Mahanadi in the last 24 hours was 122.8 mm at Rampur, 107.8 mm at Seorinarayan, 89.8 mm at Surajgarh, 81.4 mm at Korba, 84 mm at Basantpur and 70.8 mm at Dharamjaigarh.

However, there is no flood threat in the lower catchments of Mahanadi as there has been scanty rainfall, the release said.

In Angul, the water level of Brahmani at Rengali dam was 119.88 feet.
