Nor’wester brings respite from blistering heat in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Residents of Bhubaneswar today heaved a sigh of relief as nor’wester rain lashed the city, which was witnessing blistering heat for last few days.

“The capital city was witnessing heatwave condition for last few days. It got good amount of nor’wester rain today afternoon. The rain brought respite from the scorching heat,” said a local.

The nor’wester rain caused extensive damage to Kutcha houses and other structures in some areas of Khurda, Cuttack and Puri district of Odisha, said a source.

The mercury had crossed 39.2 degree Celsius in the city here by 11.30 am today, said the IMD.

The city had recorded the maximum temperature of 42.8 degree C yesterday (May 24) and 42.6 degree C the day before yesterday (May 23), added the IMD.

“The heatwave condition was causing severe inconvenience for the city residents. We were forced to stay inside our home from 11 am to 3.30 pm due to the hot and humid weather condition. The roads were almost empty during the noon in the last few days,” said another local.
