The Returning Officer’s notification came following the Election Commission of India’s notification for the by-elections to eight vacated Rajya Sabha seats.

Nominations for the poll began today and will end on June 9 while scrutiny of nominations will be held on June 10. Candidates can withdraw their nominations papers by 3 pm on June 12.

Polling will be held on June 19 between 9 am and 4 pm while votes will be counted from 5 pm onwards the same day, the notification said.

The EC has directed states to complete the by-poll process by June 21.

It may be mentioned here that the lone Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant after BJD’s AU Singhdeo, who had been elected to the Upper House in March but could not take oath to contest the Assembly election.

Since then, the post has remained vacant.
