Notorious criminal Bala injured in encounter in Odisha capital

Notorious criminal Bala Gajendra alias Suresh was injured in an encounter with police at Nuagaon under Khandagiri police limits in Odisha capital late last night.


According to reports, the special squad of Twin City Commissionerate police conducted a raid at Nuagaon after getting information regarding presence of Bala there. He fired at cops in order to escape from the spot following which the latter retaliated.

Bala sustained bullet injuries on his right knee in the exchange of fire. Though he was nabbed, his associate managed to flee the spot.

One bike, a pistol, bullets and Rs 15,000 were seized from Bala, sources said. He was initially admitted to Capital Hospital here and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Notably, Bala is the prime accused in the loot case at Gandamunda here in which some miscreants had looted an elderly couple of gold ornaments and over Rs 3 lakh. Besides, he was also involved in several dacoity cases in Banapur and Khordha area.
