Notorious criminal injured in police encounter in Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: Dreaded criminal Anant Narayan Patnaik was injured in an encounter with police near Karanjei chhak under Aska police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district early this morning.

According to reports, police tried to stop Patnaik who was travelling on a motorcycle with his associate near Karanjei chhak where cops were frisking vehicles.

In a bid to escape, he opened fire at the policemen. The cops also fired in retaliation following which he sustained bullet injuries on his right leg.

However, his aide managed to flee the spot. A pistol and two rounds of live bullets were seized from his possession by police.

Patnaik was initially admitted to Aska hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.

A manhunt has been launched to trace his associate.
