NSG to conduct reconnaissance at Puri Jagannath temple

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to thwart any possible terror attack on world famous 12th century shrine in Puri, the National Security Guard (NSG) is all set to carry out ‘reconnaissance’ exercise in Odisha’s Pilgrim town in August last.

The NSG officials have written to the Puri Collector Arvind Agarwal, SP Sarthak Sarangi and IG (Operations) RP Koche seeking cooperation and coordination in this regard.

“Jagannath temple being an important sensitive place, reconnaissance party of NSG group intends to carry out covert reconnaissance of the same on August 28-29. The aim of reconnaissance is to prepare well in advance for any unforeseen contingency in future. The strength of the team will be three to four officials,” the letter read.

The officials of the Regional Hub Hyderabad are scheduled to undertake the security preparedness drive in the last week of this month.

Last month, the elite anti-terrorist squad carried out a three-day mock drill in the capital city at various vital establishments to deal with such terror attacks.
