NTPC signs MoU with Odisha for ‘world class’ ITI in Ganjam

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government to set up a world-class Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Bhusanda under Sheragarh tehsil in Ganjam district.

As per the MoU, which was signed in the presence of chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here, the ITI, with a capacity of 200 students, shall be constructed at a cost of Rs 7.72 crore.

The trades of filter, electrician and welder shall be opened the ITI initially with accreditation of Quality Council of India with the affiliation of the National Council for Vocational Training.

The institute will have advanced vocational training facilities in Manufacturing, Automobile, ESDM, Electricals etc. to cater to high-end finishing skill training need of the trained candidates and training of the trainers with the support of the NTPC and the state government.

Thirty percent of the sanctioned strength shall be reserved for admission of the project affected persons and their wards of the NTPC project, other nearby NTPC projects and the wards of NTPC employees and other candidates recommended by the NTPC.

The state government shall provide suitable land to the NTPC free of cost for the proposed institute.

The ITI shall contribute to the state target of training and employment of one million youth during the next five years.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the state government has been giving top priority for skill upgradation and employment generation for which it has taken up a number of initiatives.

“I hope the setting up of this ITI at Sheragarh will serve the skill training need of the local youth for gainful employment and self-employment,” he added.

Among others, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare and Employment and Technical Education and Training (ETET) minister Sanjay Dasburma, Energy minister Pranab Prakash Das, Director, ETET, PK Panda, Regional Executive Director, NTPC Srikumar were present on the occasion.
