Odia filmmaker wins best award for ‘Life Drop’ in Bangladesh     

Bhubaneswar: Life Drop, a short film by Odia filmmaker Abhisek Swain won the Best Film Award at the recently-concluded Human Rights Short Film Festival held in Bangladesh.

The 30-second film, which portrays death of children in tribal areas due to consumption of contaminated water, bagged first prize at the festival. It was shot on Bonda hills in Koraput district of Odisha.

“The movie illustrates how a child dies every 30 seconds in tribal areas because they don’t have access to clean water,” said Swain.

Besides, film ‘Poster’ by Bangladeshi filmmaker Joseph Mehedi and ‘Flying Child’by Fazley Rabbi came in second place followed by Sri Lankan filmmaker Bavananthan Nithiyananthan’s film ‘Vimbam: Reflection’.

Besides, eight films from Bangladesh, India and Afghanistan received special nominations in Human Rights Films category. Five other films were awarded in Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Animation categories

The two-day short film festival, which concluded on December 9, had received 738 films from 82 countries. Total 70 films were screened during the festival, jointly organised by Dhaka University of Film Society and United Nations of Bangladesh.
