Odisha: 14-year-old boy inmate of sevashram dies as hot dal falls on him

Rourkela: In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old boy inmate of a sevashram at Dengula in Koida area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district died after sustaining burn injuries as hot dal fell on him.

The deceased was identified as Gelet Hanhaga of Kapatamunda panchayat. He was a Class VIII student of the residential school and had been residing in the educational institution.

On March 6, he sustained critical burn injuries as hot dal fell on him while he was assisting the hostel cook in cooking.

The mishap took place as the utensil containing the hot dal slipped from the minor boy’s hands while the two were shifting it from a chullah.

He was rushed to the Koida Hospital and later shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital after his condition deteriorated.

However, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment, last evening.

It is alleged that negligence on the part of the sevashram school authorities led to the fatal mishap.
