Odisha: 20-year-old student ‘sets herself afire’ after lover’s death  

Kendrapara: Mystery shrouded death of a nursing student at Kankadia village under Kendrapara Sadar police limits in the district after her charred body was found in an under-construction house in the locality this morning.

The deceased identified as Rukmani Swain (20) was undergoing nursing training in a private medical college in Bhubaneswar.

Locals said Rukmani was in love with one Kamal Lochan Dash (22) of Angulei village. However, Kamal was found dead under mysterious circumstances yesterday. After getting information, Rukmani went to her village last evening and went to sleep after taking food. Today morning, her half-burnt body was found inside an under-construction building near her house.

While some suspect that the girl committed suicide by setting herself on fire, some locals suspect it to be a case of murder.

Ranjan Behera, the girl’s maternal uncle, said “When I asked her mother, she said Rukmani came from Bhubaneswar last night and she was normal. There was no family quarrel also. We don’t know why she took the extreme step.”

Meanwhile, police along with a scientific team reached the spot and are investigating into the incident.
