Odisha: 3 arrested, 8 trucks seized for illegal sand mining

Bhubaneswar, July 11:

A team from Bhubaneswar Tehsil office today conducted a surprise raid at Kalyanpur located on the outskirts of Odisha’s capital  city and apprehended three persons on the charges of lifting sand illegally.

The team also seized eight sand laden trucks from the spot.

Later the team handed over the three to the Nandankanan police.

Two cases over illegal sand lifting have been registered at Nandankanan and Mancheswar police stations.

A manhunt to nab the owner of the seized trucks has been launched, police sources said.

Bhubaneswar Tahsildar Manas Kumar Samal, who ordered the raid, said he will draw the attention of the district collector if the police fail to take immediate action against the sand mafia involved in such illegal sand mining.
