Odisha: 3 bank officials held for misappropriating Rs 12 lakh pension money

Sambalpur: The district police have arrested as many as three bank officials for allegedly misappropriating more than Rs 12 lakh pension money after withdrawing the amount by fraudulent means.

The accused have been identified as Anirban Dey, manager of ICICI Bank, Bamaloi branch in the district; cashier Sudhir Kumar Meher; and ex-cashier Prabin Bharati, who is currently working as Customer Relation Officer at Bandhan Bank, Rairangpur branch in Mayurbhanj district.

The trio had withdrawn Rs 12,47,520 from old age pension (OAP) account of Rengali Block Office maintained at the bank through self cheques in the name of BDO, Rengali by forging the signature of the official. The BDO had lodged complaint in this regard on December 24, police sources said.

The accused had misappropriated the public money for personal gain. Efforts are on to unearth the misappropriated money, sources added.
