Odisha: 4 employees of Mundali toll gate held over assault on Chhattisgarh tourists

Bhubaneswar: At least four employees of Mundali toll gate in Cuttack district of Odisha were today arrested in connection with the assault on a group of tourists from Chhattisgarh yesterday.

The arrested persons have been produced in a local court. They have been booked under Section 147, 148, 341, 384, 323, 324, 325, 307, 427, 506, 354 (B) and 149 of the IPC, said an official of Athagarh police.

The incident took place when the tourists were returning to their home state in two buses after spending around 17 days in Odisha.

An argument ensued between the tourists and employees of the toll gate over collection of toll fees yesterday afternoon. The employees of the toll gate allegedly sought Rs 500 as toll fee from each of the two buses, sources said.

The tourists and the employees of the toll gate got engaged in a tussle when the former refused to pay anything more than Rs 200 as toll fee for a bus. At least 10 tourists, including two women, were injured when the employees of the toll gate attacked them with bamboo sticks and plastic pipes, sources added.
