Puri: With an aim to prohibit congregation of people in view of Ratha Jatra 2021, the Puri district administration today announced to impose a 48-hour curfew in Puri town from July 11, 2021.
In an order, the district administration stated shutdown with curfew will be imposed under Section 144 of CrPC in the jurisdiction Puri Town with effective from 8 PM of July 11, 2021 to 8 PM of July 13, 2021. The chariot festival of Lord Jagannatha and His siblings is on July 12, 2021,
No public congregation will be allowed on the grand road, roof top and balcony of the buildings adjoining Grand Road (‘Bada Danda’) as well.
Other than the authorized vehicle carrying essential services and medical services, no vehicle movement will be allowed in the Grand Road during the curfew, the order added.
All hotels, lodging, dharmasalas and guest houses on the Grand Road will not be allowed to open for tourists, devotees and other person in their organisations. The order further said these establishments will vacate their boarders, guests and inmates by July 10, 2021.
The shops, commercial establishment including medicine shops, banks and all offices except essential government offices located in the Grand Road will not be allowed to open.
All eight naka points or entry points of the district will be sealed in order to restrict movement of people from other districts to Puri district during the period.
Besides, three entry points of Puri town i.e. Batagaon, Mangalaghat and Grid Station Chhak will be sealed.
“During the period of curfew, for area other than Grand Road area of Puri town all shops will remain closed except medicine, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and optical shops,” it read.
However, home delivery of essential goods, food items including grocery, vegetables and milk will be permitted. Further home delivery of food by restaurants and aggregators will be allowed.
All offices and establishments will remain closed except government offices functioning with essential services and utility providers.
