Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today took a significant step to enhance the welfare of unorganized workers in the state by expanding the coverage of the Odisha Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Board Welfare Scheme.

The Chief Minister has ordered for inclusion of an additional 50 categories of unorganized workers into the scheme, thereby extending the much-needed support to a larger segment of the workforce.

One of the notable improvements brought by this decision is the increase in the assistance amount for the families of deceased workers registered with the board.

In case of accidental death, the assistance amount has been raised from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh.

Similarly, for natural deaths, the assistance amount has been hiked from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
