Odisha to accommodate farmers’ suggestions in Food Policy

Odisha government would come up with Food Policy for which it held deliberations with prominent farmers’ leaders of all the districts to accommodate their suggestions, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister said today.

“We are consulting farmers’ representatives on how to setright the issues which the farmers had faced last year. The suggestions would find prominence during the next Cabinet meeting on Food Policy,” Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Das Burma said.

The Minister said that the Food Policy would be discussed during the next Cabinet meeting. For this, meeting with the farmers’ representatives from 30 districts for the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS)-2016-17 was held.

“The farmers have come up with mainly two-three suggestions. They laid emphasis on three times meeting with RDC, increase the productivity in irrigated and non-irrigated lands and proper disbursement of payment to farmers,” he added.

The participants in the meeting discussed on the paddy procurement during the Kharif season. Besides procurement, opening of paddy procurement centres, introduction of PPAS system, linking bank account with Aadhaar and timely payment towards sale of produce were discussed during the meeting.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra was also present during the meeting held here today.
