Odisha among four most Maoist-prone states: Report

The recent report of the Union Home department has put Odisha as one of the most Maoist-prone states after Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

The report states that that the Odisha Police and the Central para-military forces had kept a strict vigil on the movements and activities of the red rebels in Bargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Bolangir and Nuapada districts in 2013 while 11 districts—Angul, Bargarh, Boudh, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Sundargarh— have been included as the Maoist-prone districts from January 1 to June 30, 2014.

During the period, there have been a total of 65 incidence of Maoist violence in these districts in which five Maoists and eight people have been killed while 48 Maoists have been arrested, the report said.
