Odisha announces Rs 50 lakh insurance cover for RTO officials, staff of requisitioned vehicles

Cuttack: The Odisha government today included regional transport officials and staff of vehicles requisitioned by the government for COVID-19 related duties in its scheme of insurance coverage of Rs 50 lakh.

In a letter to RTOs and Deputy Transport Commissioners, the Odisha Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda wrote drivers and helpers of the vehicles requisitioned for the transportation of returnees in connection with COVID-19 and RTO officials will be covered under the Rs 50 lakh insurance scheme.

He asked the RTOs and Deputy Transport Commissioners to maintain official records of the staff including personnel deployed through outsourcing in connection with COVID-19 related duties at different border check posts, requisitioning of vehicles and railway stations for receiving the stranded persons coming from other states to Odisha.

Earlier, on April 22, the Odisha government allowed insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh for private hospital staff, health workers, volunteer, local urban bodies, contract, daily wage adhoc and outsource staff requisitioned by the State who have been drafted for COVID-19 related responsibilities.

The Odisha government will pay Rs 50 lakh to the spouse/next of kin of any person drafted by government or its agencies to perform COVID-related duties in case such persons succumbs to the disease after contacting corona virus infection in his / her active line of duty.

The persons covered under the Rs 50 lakh insurance should not be eligible for insurance coverage under the guide lines issued by the Government of India.
