Odisha approves expansion projects of Bhusan Steel, Utkal Alumina

The Odisha government on Thursday approved the expansion plans of Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd (BPSL) and Aditya Birla Group-owned Utkal Alumina Ltd.

While the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) headed by Chief Secretary G.C. Pati considered seven proposals, three have been recommended to High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) and four proposals have been accorded in principle approval, the chief secretary’s office said in a release.

The proposal of Bhusan Power and Steel Ltd for expansion of steel making capacity from 2.80 MTPA to 5.5 MTPA at Thelkeloi in Sambalpur district with an investment of Rs.4,837 crore has been recommended to HLCA.

The proposal of Ardent Steel Ltd to expand its iron ore pelletisation plant from 0.60 MTPA to 1.80 MTPA and addition to iron ore beneficiation plant at Phulijhar in Keonjhar district with an investment of Rs.4,031 crore was also recommended to HLCA, said Kalyan Mohanty, general manager of state owned Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha Ltd.

He said the proposal of Utkal Alumina International Ltd for expansion of its alumina refinery capacity from 1 MTPA to 1.5 MTPA and CPP from 50 MW to 90 MW with investment of Rs.7,563.70 crore was referred to HLCA.

Besides, several projects have received in principle approval of the committee.

The proposal of Pro Minerals Pvt Ltd to set up one MTPA iron ore pelletisation plant at Basantpur in Keonjhar district with investment of Rs.238.97 crore, the proposal of Saraf Agencies Pvt Ltd to set up 15 MW CPP at Chrtrapur in Ganjam District with investment of Rs.99 crore received in principle approval.

The proposal of Ramco Cement Ltd to set up 0.9 MTPA cement factory inside IMFA complex in Cuttack district with an investment of Rs.406 crore and the proposal of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd to set up a common user facility for storage of petroleum products at Berhampur in Ganjam with an investment of Rs.280 crore was also approved, said the release.
