In what is a first such attempt outside India, Padma Shri Sudrasan Pattnaik, the brand ambassador of Odisha Tourism, has created a art of Lord Jagannath in New York city in the year of Nabakalebara (ritual change of wooden idols at the 12th century Shree Jagannath temple at Puri).
The internationally acclaimed sand artist is part of a delegation at New York Times Travel Show (NYTTS) led by Odisha’s Minister for Tourism and Culture Ashok Chandra Panda, which also includes Secretary in the Department of Tourism (DoT) Dr Arvind Padhee.
Sudarsan has also plans to create artworks on the famous UNESCO heritage site of Sun Temple, Konark and other heritage monuments of Odisha at the show, which started on January 23 and will continue till January 25 at Jacob Javits Centre in New York City.
The Odisha pavilion at the international hospitality fair is drawing an enthusiastic crowd. DoT is particpating in the event to woo tourists in US, which is an important source market for the tourism industry in the state.
