Bhubaneswar, May 4:

Speaker Niranjan Pujari today adjourned proceeding of Odisha Assembly first till 12:30 PM, then 3 PM, 4PM and later till 5:00 PM amidst pandemonium.

Odisha Assembly-1

Both ruling party members and opposition members shouted slogans against each other over Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra’s questions to the Chief Minister yesterday where he asked him to explain if his party received Rs 8 crore from chit fund accused executives.

While ruling party MLAs created ruckus asking Mishra to apologize, opposition Congress and BJP members retaliated back by shouting slogans in the well of the House leading to adjournment of the House. Congress MLAs were seen wearing black aprons even after Speaker Niranjan Pujari’s repeated messages not to do so.

“I had asked very specific questions to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. He doesn’t have the courage to reply. That is why we are asking him to step down,” said Mishra.

“The ruling party is showing their brute force today, which is not a good omen for democracy. So far as my questions and the BJD’s reaction are concerned, I will reply on the floor of the House at an appropriate time,” he added.

Later in the evening, he tweeted, “Prepared to make a statement in the Assembly, but anyone speaking against the CM is not allowed to speak even after speaker allowed”.

BJD Spokesperson Samir Dash, on the other hand, vowed that the ruling party won’t let Mishra speak in the House until he offers an apology.

“The questions of the Leader of Opposition are nothing new. Prasad Harichandan had raised this issue earlier and we had made clarifications. There is no point raising it in the Assembly again and making it appear as if BJD has received money from the chit fund companies. Making this kind of statements does not look good for a man of his position. That is why we seek an unconditional apology from him, failing which – we will not let him speak in the House,” said Dash.
