Odisha: Asst Engineer arrested by Vigilance for taking bribe

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today arrested K. Mohan Patra, Assistant Engineer of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, Umerkote for allegedly demanding and receiving a bribe of Rs 30,000.

As per Vigilance sources, the official had demanded the amount from contractor Banambar Panda for passing a Running Account bill of Rs 18,58,775 in a piped water supply project at Phulbhatta village under Dabugam block of Nabarangpur district.

Panda lodged a complaint in this regard with the anti-corruption agency, following which a trap was laid by the Vigilance sleuths.

Patra was caught red-handed by the officials of Koraput Vigilance Division this afternoon when he was receiving the money from the complainant and later arrested. The bribe amount was recovered and seized from his possession.
