B Tech student Sumant Kumar Das, a native of Mangalpur in Jajpur district and presently staying in Bhoi Nagar under Kharvel Nagar police limits here, went missing on July 29.

His bike, bearing registration number- OR-02-T-8922, was found near Mundali Bridge in Cuttack district, police sources said.

Suresh Chandra Das, father of the Sumant, said that his son left home at around 1 pm on July 29 but did not return until 6 pm.

“At around 6.30 pm, when we tried to contact him on his mobile phone, we found it switched off. I, along with my family members, then started searching for him at various places. We looked for him at his friend’s house, bus stands, railway stations, hospitals and other possible places in and around the city, but failed to trace him,” he said.

“After we failed to trace him, we lodged a complaint at Kharvela Nagar police station the same day,” the harassed father said adding his son had no enmity with any person.

Police suspected the youth might have left on his own due to pressure of not getting a job.

Police have started an investigation after registering a missing complaint.

Sumant had completed his B Tech degree last year from Sophitorium Engineering College at Baniatangi in Khordha district and was looking for a suitable job, family sources said.
