Odisha bandh: Utkal University postpones exams

Bhubaneswar:  The Utkal University has decided to postpone its first semester exams scheduled to be held tomorrow as Congress called for 12-hour Odisha bandh over suicide of Kunduli gang rape victim.

“The first semester (Regular and Back) of under graduate course scheduled to be held on 24.01.2018 has been shifted to 25.01.2018 from 11 am to 2 pm due to Odisha bandh,” University’s Controller of Examinations said in a statement.

The third semester (Regular and Back) of MA/M.Com/MSW will be held 02.02.2018 instead of 24.01.2018. The examination time will remain same a per the schedule, the University informed.

As per the statement, all other examinations at colleges those are under Utkal University scheduled to be held January 24 has also been postponed.

The new date for these exams is yet to decided by the varsity.

Earlier in the day, Odisha PCC President Prasad Harichandan informed to observe a 12-hour bandh tomorrow from 6 am to 6 pm across the State. Similarly, State unit of BJP also called for a 12-hour state-wide strike to press its demand for a CBI probe into the gang rape and death of the minor girl.

Notably, 14-year-old tribal girl, who was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 last year, had committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Mushaguda village in Koraput district on Monday afternoon
