Odisha bank guards’ death: Families demand CB probe, compensation

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Rourkela, Sept 2:

A day after the mysterious death of two security guards of the Odisha State Cooperative Bank in Rourkela, the family members of the deceased today urged the state government to order a Crime Branch (CB) probe into the incident.

Talking to media persons here, the aggrieved family members said that they suspect the murder of their kin as the assailants might have taken advantage of the defunct CCTV inside the bank office.

“We also demand Rs 10 lakh each as compensation from the bank authorities and the concerned security agencies”, they added.

It may be mentioned that the police on Monday morning had admitted two security guards of the bank — Parameswar Behera and Purna Chandra Dehuri — at the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) after finding them in a pool of blood with bullet injuries.

The two guards later succumbed to their injuries.

Police suspect that the two guards could have fired on each other after a fracas during the change of duty.
