Odisha ‘best state’ in self employment for urban poor

Odisha has been ranked as the ‘best state’ in providing self employment to urban poor under the centrally sponsored Swarna Jayanti Sahari Rajgar Yojana (SJGRY).

The state has been selected for the national award for the year 2012-13 according to a communiqué received from the Union ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, said a release of the state government.

The release said a letter from the Union government’s Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation department to the state Development Commissioner Injeti Srinivas had asked for the state’s participation in the award giving ceremony to be held on January 21 in  New Delhi at  Vigyan Bhawan. President Pranab Mukherjee will confer the award, the release added.

SJSRY is a joint venture of the Centre and the state government. Odisha was chosen as the best state among 14 other major states implementing the programme.
