Odisha: Bhadrak double murder-rape accused sent to jail

Bhadrak: A local court today sent Bhadrak double murder and rape accused Gopinath Mohanty, alias Babua, to jail after rejecting his bail plea.

The district police had produced Babua before the Bhadrak JMFC which later sent him to judicial custody. The court also recorded statement of the accused under section of 164 CrPC.

The statement of the minor daughter of the deceased couple was also recorded in the court.

Sources said the police would seek remand of the accused for further investigation.

On Tuesday, Bhadrak Superintendent of Police (SP) B Gangadhar said the accused had planned to eliminate all family members of Rabi Beuria and his wife in order to take Rs 2 lakh in cash and other valuables from their home.

Gangadhar said Gopinath had plans to kill the daughter as well in order to eliminate evidence.

Earlier, the youth had confessed that he killed the couple to take revenge. He had said that he wanted to kill the couple since they had been troubling his parents for years.

According to police, Gopinath had pestled Bhaktilata to death with a grinding stone in Talasitha village under Dhamnagar Police Station in Bhadrak on Saturday night. The accused had escaped from the spot after tying the hands and legs of the deceased’s daughter.
