“The people of Odisha are under undue stress because of lack of drinking water. At times, women wait for hours to get water from the supply lines. At others, they walk up to four kilometres to fetch water. Panchayati Raj Department has failed to supply water in the state despite availability of water tankers. We took up these issues with the Governor. He has assured us to take it up with the government,” said BJP Vice President Samir Mohanty speaking to reporters after the meeting.

Later in the day, the party held a press conference in its Bhubaneswar headquarters and pulled up the government for rising cases of corruption and worsening condition of water and electricity supply.

“Today we met the Governor and discussed the acute shortage of drinking water in the state. Despite getting huge funds from the Union Government, inefficient Naveen Government is not able to provide clean potable water to 99 percent population of the state. Corruption is on an all-time high in the state. Electricity supply is in a complete mess,” accused Panda addressing the press conference.

It may be noted that the party recently launched its Jan Kalyan Yatra where drinking water crisis is a key agenda along with education, healthcare and ration card distribution. So far, the party has covered eight districts in the first phase of the yatra.
