Bhubaneswar, Oct 27:

A day after the General Manager of Seaways Shipping was shot dead in broad daylight in Odisha’s Paradip, BJP today pulled up the State Government for deteriorating law and order situation in the state and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.

“People have a perception that somewhere or other there is pressure on the police. If the State Government believes it cannot conduct a free and fair probe, it should involve the CBI.  Our party demands a CBI investigation into the incident,” said Odisha BJP Spokesperson Sajjan Sharma.

Reacting to BJP’s demand, local MLA and Excise Minister Damodar Rout blamed BJP instead.

“They had demanded for a CBI inquiry into the chit fund scam. CBI has been investigating the chit fund scam too. What has happened? I blame BJP for the mess in Paradip,” said Rout who has been fighting BJP’s growing influence there.

Curiously, speaking to reporters yesterday, Rout had blamed the administration for the failing law and order situation in the port town while his rival Bishnu Das blamed him for criminalization of politics there.

The local police, on the other hand, assured that they are doing everything possible to nab the culprits.

“We have set up checkpoints at three-four places and have been conducting raids at all possible places including some of the slums. The investigation is on. I am hopeful of nabbing the culprits soon,” said Paradip IIC Subhranshu Sekhar Nayak.
