Odisha BJP demands judicial probe into Chandpur firing

Echoing the Congress party, the Odisha BJP today demanded a judiciary inquiry into the police firing in Chandapur village in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Thursday that left one person killed and several others injured.

“The crime branch and RDC probe cannot nab the culprits. A judicial probe by a retired high court judge should be ordered to punish the perpetrators. As the law and order has deteriorated alarmingly in the state, the chief minister should immediately order a judicil probe,” said senior BJP leader Biswabhusan Harichandan.

He also sought Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family of the deceased immediately.

Harichandan said chief minister Naveen Patnaik must resign from his post, if he is unable to maintain law and order in the state and take action against the culprits.

However, the BJD rubbished the demand for the chief minister’s resignation.

“The BJP always demands the resignation of the chief minister in every matter. It has become a habit of the party. So, there is nothing new in it. The state government is taking every step to probe the matter,” said BJD spokespsrson Amar Satapathy,
