Odisha BJP leader softens stance on quitting party

Bhubaneswar: A day after making statement in media that BJP is neglecting him and he would take drastic step in a day or two, senior leader of the saffron party Ashok Panigrahi today made a U-turn. Panigrahi said, “The talks of quitting BJP is a rumour and there is no truth into it. I am with BJP and will remain so in coming days.”

On whether he is being neglected by the party, Panigrahi stated, “I am ready to work for the party. But it does not seem interested to give me a chance to do anything. This shows I am not required in the party. However, I am not unhappy and will remain with the party.”

Asked about why he was not given any role during the general polls 2019 and Bijepur bypoll, Panigarhi said, “May be the party does not want me to bestow any responsibility and the move has displeased many local party activists.”

Replying to another query, the senior BJP leader said he has not been in touch with any other party.

Worth mentioning, Panigrahi had held a meeting with party activists in Bijepur yesterday. Thereafter he had said that he would hold talks with supporters again to decide his future political course of action in a day or two.

The former MLA had quit BJD in 2018 and joined BJP. However, he was denied a ticket during general polls 2019.
