Odisha unit of BJP today observed ‘Day of Shame’ in Bhubaneswar against the Biju Janata Dal rule in the state.

Hundreds of party workers took part in a rally held at Master Canteen square to highlight the failures of the State Government and alleged that incidents such as Dana Majhi incident, Nagada deaths, chit fund scam, land scam, mining scam and Gumudumaha firing have brought shame for the state.

“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has brought shame to the state. Under his watch, the state has ranked number one in malnourishment, number two in maternal mortality, number two in poverty and number three in uncleanness. The people of this state won’t be able to walk the streets with their heads held high so long as this government is there,” said senior BJP leader Pratap Sarangi.

“A member of the police that provide security to the Chief Minister committed suicide by self immolation. The condition of home guards is pathetic. Four of their MLAs were caught on camera while seeking bribe for industrialisation. They are not even aware that they cannot issue NOCs. The Chief Minister has made these corrupt and ignorant men MLAs. They were not even suspended”.

“Dana Majhi had to carry the body of his wife for over 10 kilometres as he was denied an ambulance. Even though the people from foreign countries offered their help, the Chief Minister didn’t act.  Another man died in Soro as the ambulance didn’t reach on time. It shows how the administration works. Patnaik neither has control over his party or over the administration,” he added.

Biju Janata Dal, on the other hand, refuted the allegations.

“They are so many pressing issues in the state right now. Instead of playing the role of a constructive opposition, they are doing politics over one-off incidents that could not be contained. They should feel ashamed of doing so,” said BJD Spokesperson Sashi Bhusan Behera.
