Dhenkanal, Mar 23:

Opposing the recent Zilla Parishad rule amendment by Odisha government, state unit of BJP has decided to boycott the Zilla Parishad vice chairman poll scheduled on March 24 in Dhenkanal.

The party has decided to boycott the poll protesting the ordinance brought by BJD government on March 8 to amend the ZP rule, informed Dhenkanal BJP president Bibhuti Bhushan Pradhan in a release.

He also alleged the government of misusing the district administration for its interest.

The saffron party condemns the amendment as the ordinance was brought when the panchayat polls are underway in the state, the release said.

Notably, Naveen-led government drew sharp criticism from opposition BJP for amending section 51 of Odisha Zilla Parishad Election Rules-1994.

BJP criticised the amendment terming it as ‘conspiracy’ by the ruling party.

Challenging the amendment, the party moved Orissa High Court.
