Odisha boys, girls shine in AITA championship

Bhubaneswar, Sep 27: The Odisha boys and girls came out with flying colours with Pratyush Chhotray clinching a double at the AITA-OTA Champions Series Under-14 Tennis Tournament which concluded at the SOA University Sports Complex here on Thursday.

The fourth-seed local boy won the boy’s singles title defeating state-mate Mahesh Mohapatra (third seed) 6-3, 6-3 in the final.

However, second seed Alisha Samal of Odisha suffered a setback when she twisted her ankle in the girl’s singles final against top seed Yubrani Banerjee (West Bengal) and conceded the match.

In the boy’s doubles final, Pratyush Choudhury and Swostik Pradhan of Odisha defeated N Kirandevaa (Tamil Nadu) and Raghava Gannaparavu (Andhra Pradesh) 6-3, 6-2 to win the title.

The girl’s doubles title was also claimed by Odisha’s Alisha Samal and Rutuparna Choudhury who defeated Yubrani Banerjee (West Bengal) and Anisha J Jain (Karnataka) 4-0, 3-5, 7-1 in the final.

Earlier in the semifinals, Mahesh Mohapatra had beaten top seed Swostik Pradhan 6-4, 6-0 while Pratyush Chhotray had pipped N Kirandevaa (Tamil Nadu) 6-4, 6-3. (MM)
