Bhubaneswar: In view of COVID-19 outbreak in Bhubaneswar, the celebration of Capital Foundation Day scheduled tomorrow has been cancelled to avoid mass congregation.
The celebration of 72nd Capital Foundation Day has been suspended in view of COVID-19 pandemic, informed Capital Day Celebration Committee in a release today.
Bhubaneswar is one of the first four planned cities in India. The foundation stone to make the temple city Bhubaneswar as the state capital had been laid by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on April 13, 1948.
To commemorate the foundation stone laying day, the Capital Day Celebration Committee has been celebrating the auspicious day since past 30 years.
In collaboration with the state government and Khordha district administration, the organisation has been conducting programme in a grand way on April 13 every year. However, in view of increasing number of COVID-19 cases and enforcement of lockdown, the committee has decided to cancel all the programme related to Bhubaneswar foundation day this year, the release stated.
The committee prayed to Lord Jagannath and Lord Lingaraj for inclusive development of Bhubaneswar and to save the country and state from clutches of Coronavirus.
