Odisha car owner fined Rs 20, 000 for damaging national highway

Reckless driving resulting in damage to national highways will now invite hefty fines for the owners of the vehicle as it happened in a case in the Odisha capital on Wednesday.

National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) yesterday imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on a car driver for damaging the road divider on the National Highway No 5 near the Rasulgarh Square here on Tuesday night. The car has been detained by Lamisagar police and the owner asked to cough up a fine of Rs 20, 000.

The man driving the car (Reg No OR 02 BQ 1413) had met with an accident at Cuttack Road area under Laxmi Sagar Police Station limits around midnight on Tuesday following which the car was taken to the police station by the cops.

NHAI authorities also reached the police station and fined him for the damages to the highway. He was asked to pay a penalty of Rs 20,000 for the damages before he is allowed to take his car back.
