Chit fund scam accused, currently behind bars, were today spotted meeting their kin in a government-run hospital in Odisha capital allegedly in the guise of undergoing ‘treatment’ for orthopaedic complaints raising many eyebrows.

It raises an obvious doubt in the minds of many as to how the mega chit fund scam accused Artha Tatwa (AT) Group chief Pradeep Sethi, director real estate firm Orisun Properties Ltd Vineet Lalani arrested for links with AT Group and owner of regional television channel Manoj Dash also arrested for links with AT Group had visited the Capital Hospital on the same day with same complaints.

They were brought from Jharpada Special Jail here amid tight security for physiotherapy.

If sources are to be believed, this was not the first occasion when these undertrials had come to the hospital for treatment and spend several hours with their kin.

The scam accused visit the hospital where they get to meet their family members inside the physiotherapy ward. While security personnel in dozens guard outside the ward, the family members chit-chat with the scam accused inside the air conditioned room without any hindrance.

While Pradeep Sethi had a prescription for treatment, Manoj Dash reportedly did not have any doctor’s advice to undergo physiotherapy.

“We have treated them as per the advice of the doctors. Pradeep Sethi and Manoj Dash had come for treatment but the latter was not treated,” a staff of the physiotherapy centre said.

A top official of the premier government referral hospital said that inquiry will be conducted if allegations of someone getting treatment without any prescription come to the fore.

“Guards escort the prisoners come here for treatment in the indoor department. We will definitely inquire into the allegations if someone gets treatment here without prescription,” Deputy Superintendent, Capital Hospital Bijay Mohapatra said.

Similarly, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said that he will look into the matter.

“We would probe into the allegations that the relatives of the undertrials are meeting them in the hospital and spending time with them. We would definitely take action against the escort party if there would be any procedural lapses,” Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.
