Odisha chit fund scam: City builder quizzed twice by CBI

Sagar Ray, one of the proprietors of Orison Properties Ltd, a city-based real estate firm, today appeared before CBI team inquiring into the Odisha chit fund scam twice for interrogation over his alleged involvement in the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group land deals and construction of apartments and duplex houses in the city.

Ray was grilled for more than three hours this afternoon and again for half-an-hour tonight.

CHIT FUND SCAMThe Central investigating agency recorded the statements of Ray, CBI sources said.

The builder along with Vineet Lalani, his partner, is said to have taken huge amounts of money from the AT group for thttp://odishasuntimes.com/wp-admin/post-new.php#heir realestate and construction business, it added.

On September 5, the CBI had recorded the statements of two builders, Ray and Lalani, after grilling the duo for several hours.

On November 5, the CBI team based on the recorded statements and its investigation, had arrested Lalani and Dillip Mohanty for their alleged links with the AT Group, a ponzi firm.

Dillip Mohanty, another realtor, happens to be a director of Lalani’s real estate firm.

The special CBI court here on November 6 had sent the two businessmen Lalani and Mohanty on an eight-day CBI remand after they were produced before the court.

They would be produced in the court on November 13 again after their remand period ends.

Sources said Orison Properties Ltd had constructed an apartment at Sundarpada in the city using AT Group money.

However, Lalani later sold the apartment but did not repay the amount he had taken from the AT Group, the sources added.
