Odisha chit fund scam: BIT among Seashore assets worth Rs 84 cr attached by ED

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), today attached property worth about Rs 84 crore belonging to the Seashore Group of Companies, one of the leading players in the multi thousand crore Odisha chit fund scam.

The property attached today included the 20 acres of land and building of Bhubaneswar Institute of Technology (BIT) here in which Seashore had invested almost Rs 9 crores, ED sources told OST.

Among the other assets seized today were multiple pieces of land amounting to about 23 acres scattered over Angul, Sambalpur and Bolangir districts cumulatively worth about Rs 73 crores and a roller mill in Cuttack. Also attached was a bank account of the company with Rs 3.25 crore in it.

The bulk of the land attached today had been been seized by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of state Crime Branch while half an acre of land at Ainthapalli in Sambalpur district and 20 acres land of BIT were seized by the ED today.

It may be noted that the ED had attached property worth about Rs 158 crore belonging to Seashore a On December 3 last year. With today’s seizure, the total worth of moveable and immovable assets belonging to Seashore attached by the ED has now gone up to Rs 242 crores.
