Already reeling under the impact of the startling revelations unearthed by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) during the course of their investigation into the mega chit fund scam in Odisha, the Naveen Patnaik government is in for even tougher times in the days ahead with ED special director Yogesh Gupta and the DIG of the CBI’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) S Bagchi arriving here this morning to prepare a road map for the business end of the probe.

The ED special director would draw up a list of people to be served summons for interrogation on the trail of funds fraudulently collected by chit fund companies with special focus on the Seashore group of companies, sources said.

The agency, it may be noted, has already questioned Rajya Sabha member and former BJD No 2 Pyari Mohan Mohapatra for over two hours on Monday.

The CBI, which raided the Bhubaneswar and New Delhi residences of Mohapatra yesterday, is believed to have seized documents which give some vital clues to his links with the Seashore group.

The raid on and interrogation of Subhankar Nayak, a land broker, had also thrown up some crucial leads on the diversion of funds by the Seashore group.

The SIT DIG, who arrived from Kolkata this morning, is going through the huge amount of documents seized during the simultaneous raids conducted by the agency at 18 places in Odisha, New Delhi and Mumbai yesterday. After perusing the documents, he would chart out the next course of action in consultation with the local officials of the CBI, sources said.

Bagchi was later joined by SIT SP Rajeev Ranjan, who arrived in the afternoon.

Bagchi is looking in particular at senior BJD leaders and top state government officials, who may have lent a helping hand to the Seashore group to spread its business in the state, the sources said.

It may be noted that two retired IAS officers and a former commissioner of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) were among the people raided by the CBI yesterday.
