Odisha chit fund scam: Mumbai model Preeti Bhatia may get bail soon

Mumbai based model Preeti Bhatia, arrested by the CBI for her alleged complicity with the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group, a major player in the mega chit fund scam in Odisha, is likely to be granted bail soon. She is now lodged in Jharpada jail here.

Ms Bhatia has been directed by the Supreme Court to deposit a hefty amount of Rs 1, 17, 83,000 within six weeks with the special CBI court here. Only after the amount is deposited by her will the court consider whether she will be granted bail or not, the apex court said.

It may be mentioned here that Ms Bhatia was arrested by the CBI on October 10, 2014. She had first moved the High Court for bail, which had rejected her plea. Her counsel then had moved the Supreme Court on March 16 to seek bail for her.

Ms Bhatia’s counsel AK Singh has informed that the court, after conducting a hearing in the matter, has directed to deposit the above mentioned amount.
