Bhubaneswar, Sept 21:

The special CBI court here today rejected the bail petitions of Mumbai-based stock exchange broker Deepak Chandratan Pareek and real estate broker Dharmendra Bothra, who were arrested for their complicity in the mega chit fund scam in Odisha earlier in the day.

The court allowed the CBI  to take Bothra on a four-day remand while sending Pareek to judicial custody till September 30.

The CBI had sought to take Bothra on remand for five days. The real estate broker will be produced in the court on September 24 after his remand period ends.

Pareek’s counsel Nihar K Patra told OST that his client was arrested because he could not produce all the papers on a Rs 1.1 crore stock related transaction between him and Pradip Sethy. “We will move the higher court to seek bail,” Patra said.

Madhu Mohanty, owner of Odisha Bhaskar will also be produced in the court on September 24 his remand period too will come to an end the same day.

The CBI is waiting for the High Court’s verdict on the anticipatory bail plea by BJD MLA Pravat Tripathy, which will come up for hearing on Monday, the sources added.
