Odisha CM announces Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia for three VIMSAR victims

Close to a week after three women died at VSS Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, Odisha government today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to the next to the kin of each deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

Three pregnant women had died at VIMSAR in Burla within barely five hours of undergoing caesarean section operation at the Obstetrics and Gynaeocology (O&G) Department of the hospital pointing towards deaths due to alleged medical negligence.

Amid hue and cry, the minister had convened a meeting of top officials following which a probe, headed by the Director Medical Education and Training (DMET) was ordered into the incident.

The committee probing the deaths was scheduled to submit its report to the state Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak today.

Of the three deceased women, two belonged to Bargarh and one hailed from Jharsuguda.
