Odisha CM announces Rs 10 crore for Odia cultural centre in Surat

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced a provision of Rs 10 crore for a cultural centre for Odia people in Surat. An announcement in this regard was made by him last evening while addressing the gathering at the Odisha Mahotsav in Surat.

Patnaik said he has written a letter to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for allocating land for the establishment of the Odia cultural centre.

“Besides, I have requested the Centre to introduce direct train between Surat and Berhampur and direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Surat,” he said.

The CM further said that steps will be taken to open a +2 college in Surat and the State Government will find out a way so that Odia students in Surat can appear in Matric examination under the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha.

Odia textbooks will be provided to the Odia students in Surat free of cost by the Odisha Government, he said.

Speaking about the State Government’s Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, the Chief Minister said the scheme does not differentiate between APL and BPL and is applicable to all Odias. People of Odisha residing in Surat can also take benefit from the scheme, he added.
