In yet another bid to enhance employability levels of the youth in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed officials of Employment and Technical Education & Training department to give priority to the intake of school and college dropouts between classes VIII and XII in skill development programmes in the state.

The Chief Minister directed officials to include students who have not performed well in their examinations of classes X and XII and do not have better career options in the programme.

The Chief Minister issued the directives during a high level meeting to review the plans and programmes of the Employment and Technical Education & Training department held at the state secretariat here today.

Patnaik also directed to include at least three per cent physically challenged persons in the employment based training programmes. He asked officials to accordingly direct organizations providing training to such people. The newly formed department of Physically Challenged, Social Security and Empowerment will see and coordinate the implementation of these new guidelines.

The Chief Minister asked for implementing a web-based platform to avoid duplication. Apart from maintaining a list of students in different subjects and empanelled trainers, the platform would also perform other necessary works.

Patnaik advised officials to strengthen the programmes of the Employment Mission and make it more efficient and effective by appointing persons with technical knowledge. He ordered officials to make Employment Mission the ‘nodal department’ for training programme by all departments.

It was revealed at the meeting that programmes are underway to train 11 lakh youth in the state in a period of five years while more than 1.5 lakh youth have already been provided with training in 2014-15.

The meeting delved on issues like infrastructure development, skilled trainers, job-oriented training, and personality development among others.
