Odisha CM inaugurates new IT block of Tech-Mahindra

Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the new block of IT giant Tech Mahindra in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. This will add 615 more people to the existing workforce of its Bhubaneswar centre and take it to 1611.

Speaking on the occasion, Patnaik said, “The growth rate of IT exports from the State has been more than the national growth rate for last several years. In order to promote such Industries, IT Special Economic Zones have been established at Info-city and Info-valley in Bhubaneswar. The State Government is also setting up a green field Electronics Manufacturing Cluster within Info-valley. Further, Odisha is the first State in the Country which has signed an MOU with TiE, Silicon Valley, USA to attract foreign investment under ESDM sector in the EMC.”

Speaking on the occasion, MD & CEO of the USD 3.4 billion IT major, CP Gurnani said the company had big plans for the state. “We propose to invest about Rs 500 crore in the Odisha over the next five to seven years. We would like to be part of the growth story of Bhubaneswar as an emerging IT powerhouse,” he said.

The Tech Mahindar boss said company aims to recruit more people through local hiring, adding to its existing strong operations base in the region. “Our journey from being 25 associates in 1997 to 600 strong now has been eventful.” Tech Mahindra employs more than 93,500 professionals across 51 countries.

Among others, Energy and IT minister Pranab Prakash Das, Tourism minister Ashok Panda, Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani, MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA Bijay Mohanty, Mayor Bhubaneswar Ananta Narayan Jena, Chief Secretary G. C. Pati were present in the meeting.
